Seems that the fuel primer/enrichment solenoid was shot and was pumping gas into the carb all the time. The idle screw had been turned way up to get the carb to process the extra fuel without choking out. $160 plus labor. Get rid of that electric fuel pump and put the correct one in it. The electric fuel pump is nothing but a fire hazard.
