Kinda off topic but in a perfect Marine Corps there’d be more incentives to do a SDA, every option would be considered a “b-billet” vice just DI/ Recruiter/ Combat Instructor, and the standard tour would be two years vice three so Marines wouldn’t be away from their mos too long. If you want to stay longer you can request a third year.
Further, many good Marines know how bad the duty is, so they get out, rather than go on the duty.
