Hello, I'm doing a full restoration on a Winchester 1897 and after I re-blue it, Id like to get a heat shield/bayonet lug assembly to give it that trench gun look. The problem is that mine has a 28 inch tapered barrel and from what I understand the original trench guns had 20 inch straight barrels. Building a trenchgun will be difficult as East Taylor llc has closed down [afaik], they built '97, military and cut down civilian barrel and Model 12 heat shields. Cut down civilian barrels are smaller dia than true riot gun barrels. Good luck on your build.I am having a problem getting a 1917 bayonet to mount on the replica 1897 heat shield lugs I ordered from Taylor LLC. Difficult figuring exactly why the bayonet will not go on the lugs. Wondering if anyone has had the same problem and how they resolved it. Contacting Jack at Taylor has not provided a solution. Hi, I have a chance to get this Winchester 1897 and am trying to gather info it. I looked up the serial number and it seems to be a 1920-21 production. I hope someone could tell me if this is a trench gun or a riot ? It does have a 4 row heat shield and I noticed on the bottom of the grip is stamped a RA. Anyone know what that means?
