Oct 27, 2019 · I just got my first gas chainsaw from the local Stihl dealer (now closed for the weekend), an MS 170 and used it earlier today. It came fueled from the store, and started easily (following the manual, going from choke on the bottom, then starting it on fast idle then immediately switching it up again by pulling the trigger again).
Start by removing the bar cover and follow the above-mentioned checklist. Engage the chain brake by pushing the chain guard forward until it clicks into position.
