When Valve showed off the box originally, people on the Steam Deck discord said "they'll have an outer box for shipping." Once devs started getting theirs, there was no indication of an outer shipping box. I'm surprised more Deck's haven't been stolen because Valve chose to save money by not using an outer box. Then you can contact Steam Support about it with the information from FEDEX. Usually you should then get a replacement unit and FEDEX will reimburse Valve. Of course since the Steam Deck has a long waiting list and each produced unit is preordered it may take a while till they can send you a replacement.

It's poor strategy that reeks of "We are not confident in our product enough to go into mass production", and if you care about the future of the Deck, or a potential Deck V2, you should wish upon a star that they market it to non-steam users, otherwise it's gonna go the same way as the Steam Controller, except the Deck didn't deserve that.

If it doesn't get to in 7 "business" days after it was "deployed", meaning scanned by FedEx, email valve.
